What Do Trader Joe’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings Taste Like?
The Trader Joe’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings have a decadent taste. The outside of the dumpling is soft while the inside soup is hot and steamy with a tender chicken filling. Needless to say, we were in awe. These little soup dumplings were delicious.
You instantly get a melt in your mouth dumpling that has a sweet, but savory taste from the broth. The chicken filling dissolves in your mouth and has a slight green onion taste to it. This is by no means a salty dish and can be paired well with a variety of dipping sauces.
We ate these the way Trader Joe’s recommends, which is by biting a small hole on either the top or bottom of the dumpling and letting the soup fill up the spoon before taking a bite.
For the best taste, the dumpling should be eaten all at once.
If you are looking for restaurant style dumplings in terms of quality and taste, these are a must try item on your next trip to Trader Joe’s.
How Do You Cook Trader Joe’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings?
When reading the heating instructions on the side of the box, there are two preferred methods to cook the dumplings.
Both methods of cooking steam the dumplings. The microwave route cooks the dumplings a lot faster than the stove top method.
However, we believe that using a steamer on the stove top will produce a better tasting dumpling than steaming them in the microwave. Use whichever method you can or have the time for.
We opted to cook the dumpling in a steamer on our stove top so we could get the best experience possible.
Microwave Instructions
The microwave instructions are specific to a 1,200 wattage microwave. If you have a lower wattage microwave (such as a 900 watt), you may need to heat for additional time.
Once you open the package and take out the dumplings, you are left with 6 dumplings on a plastic tray that are sealed in plastic bag. Simply cut one corner of the bag to vent it, and place it in the microwave for 1.5-2 minutes.
Once they have finished heating, leave them untouched in the microwave for an additional minute. This will steam them in the microwave for an additional minute without overcooking it from the heat of the microwave.
Stove Top Instructions
The most preferred method to cook the dumplings are on the stovetop with a steamer. The first step is to warm up boiling water in your steamer basket or pot on the stove.
Once it reaches a boil, place all your dumplings into the steamer. Be to give them enough room from each other so they can cook evenly.
Cover them with the lid and allow them to steam for 8-10 minutes, or until they are cooked through. The dough should be slightly translucent when it is fully warmed up.
Carefully remove them from the steamer when they are finished cooking. The dumplings will be very tender and may break easily if not handled with care.

How Do You Eat Trader Joe’s Soup Dumplings?
Trader Joe’s recommends eating their soup dumplings by first taking a bite of the dumpling, either from the top or the side. This will create a tiny hole for the soup to leak out onto your spoon.
Once the soup has cooled on the spoon, place the entire dumpling with the soup into your mouth. This is the preferred way to eat the dumplings for the best experience possible.
