Does Trader Joe’s Sell Vermicelli Noodles? (Explained)

Does Trader Joe's Sell Vermicelli Noodles

Trader Joe’s is a leading grocery store in the US. As their branches tend to be a bit smaller than other grocery stores, Trader Joe’s specializes in unique products, often marketed under their own brand. This is where you head if you want something you are struggling to find in other stores. So, does Trader Joe’s sell vermicelli noodles?

Trader Joe’s sells vermicelli noodles, but they come as part of a meal kit (the Peanut and Crispy Noodle Salad Kit). While Trader Joe’s used to sell vermicelli noodles on their own, it no longer appears that they do. If you want to buy vermicelli noodles from Trader Joe’s, then you’ll have to buy them alongside a bag of vegetables.

On this page, we’re going to go into a bit more depth on whether Trader Joe’s sells vermicelli noodles, as well as provide you with some advice on determining when their product range changes.

Understanding Vermicelli Noodles

Vermicelli noodles originate from Italy, although there are a few other versions of vermicelli produced in other places e.g. vermicelli noodles from Asia (these are made with rice), and capellini from Vietnam, which are often used interchangeably with vermicelli noodles.

As you may know, vermicelli noodles are long and thin. They look almost like spaghetti. In fact, many people mistake vermicelli for spaghetti.

However, in the US, vermicelli has a very specific definition. It has to have a diameter under 0.06 inches, while spaghetti must be between 0.06 and 0.11 inches. In Italy, vermicelli is thicker than spaghetti. So, yes. The definition of what vermicelli is can be a little bit different.

If you head to Italy, then the vermicelli that you eat there will be different from the stuff that you eat in the US.

Vermicelli noodles can be used in most pasta-based and noodle-based dishes. They are a staple of both Asian and Italian cuisine, after all.

So, you could use them in salads, stir-fries, spaghetti bolognese, and a whole lot more. You probably should have some sort of thick sauce over the top of them, though. If you don’t, it won’t taste great. Noodles tend to be rather bland.

Trader Joe’s loves to source products from all over the world. While this isn’t a place that you would be able to do a full grocery shop at (unless you were trying to place huge limits on yourself), it is a place that you could head if you were planning on getting something delicious to make a unique meal.

We love the Asian cuisine selection at Trader Joe’s. They have a wealth of Asian sauces and curries (mostly for stir-fries), noodles, and a good selection of fresh vegetables.

It’s no wonder so many people come here to look for vermicelli noodles. Trader Joe’s really does everything that you need to put together an amazing meal. They don’t just sell the ingredients separately either.

You can also buy meal kits that will make life a whole lot easier for yourself. Take the vermicelli noodles, for instance. You can buy them in a ‘Peanut and Crispy Noodle Salad Kit‘.

On the noodle and pasta front, Trader Joe’s has a tremendous selection. All the ‘main’ types of pasta and noodle are covered. You also have more unique noodles such as Japanese glass noodles.

You won’t always find the exact product that you are after, owing to the smaller size of Trader Joe’s, but most of the time you should be able to find an alternative.

If you can’t find an alternative, then you should have no issues finding ingredients to put together an amazing meal yourself.

Researching Trader Joe’s Vermicelli Noodles

As we said, Trader Joe’s does not currently stock vermicelli noodles separately. The only way to buy vermicelli noodles is part of a meal kit (the Peanut and Crispy Noodle Salad Kit).

That being said, the Trader Joe’s product range changes so frequently that it is worth researching to see whether the company has vermicelli noodles in stock before you head there.

The Trader Joe’s website is always the best place to check. If you head there and tap in ‘Vermicelli Noodles’, it will tell you every single product that has vermicelli noodles in them. You can also give their customer service team a call.

If you are in Trader Joe’s, then have a wander down their noodle and pasta aisles to see if they have anything for sale.

Some people may also want to sign up to various Trader Joe’s online review sites. The communities there will let you know if the vermicelli noodles are ever in stock.

Alternative Names for Vermicelli Noodles

While technically not the same product, the closest that you will get to vermicelli noodles in Trader Joe’s would be Italian Capellini.

This is what would be consumed in Vietnam when somebody orders ‘vermicelli noodles’. As far as we can tell, Trader Joe’s constantly has vermicelli noodles in stock.

Honestly, any noodle that is long and thin can be used as a substitute for vermicelli noodles. The taste and texture won’t be exactly the same, but it will work in your dishes.

Ideally, you probably wouldn’t want to replace the vermicelli noodles with spaghetti. While it does look the same, spaghetti is a bit thicker. So, capellini is always the best route to go down.

Final Thoughts

Vermicelli noodles are consumed in both Italian and Asian cuisine. While each region has its own version of vermicelli, the differences are not that huge. In Trader Joe’s, vermicelli is mostly seen as an Asian noodle.

Unfortunately, Trader Joe’s does not sell vermicelli. Well, not on its own. You can find it as part of various meal kits. If you want something that tastes like vermicelli, then you will need to pick up Italian Capellini instead. It is not exactly the same, but close enough. Trader Joe’s does change its range frequently, though.

Sometimes, they introduce new products for just a few weeks. If you want more up-to-date information on whether Trader Joe’s has vermicelli noodles in stock then we suggest you consult their website. Alternatively, you can give their customer support team a call.
