Does Trader Joe’s Sell Liverwurst? (Answered)

Does Trader Joe's Sell Liverwurst

Liverwurst is a common liver-based meat that is commonly consumed in Europe, mostly around Germany, Austria, and Poland areas. Trader Joe’s is no stranger to introducing unique products into their mix…so does Trader Joe’s sell liverwurst?

No. Trader Joe’s does not have liverwurst in their stores. We guess that the product is a little bit too unique for them. It is unlikely to be a big seller, so they have decided not to stock it.

Let’s give you a few ideas on what you can do.

Availability of Liverwurst at Trader Joe’s

As we said, Trader Joe’s does not stock liverwurst.

If you have ever been in Trader Joe’s, then you know that their business model is roughly this:

  • Choose products that sell well
  • Choose products they can sell cheaply
  • Cram as much of it into the same space as possible.

Liverwurst, as delicious as it may be, is not really a product that sells that great. It isn’t going to be on Trader Joe’s agenda to include it in their stores.

If they did, then they would be throwing away a lot of products. A lot of people would probably end up complaining too since there are much, much more important products that Trader Joe’s could be stocking.

This is not to say that the company is never going to introduce liverwurst into its stores. There is a chance that they may do. However, we wouldn’t really count on it.

Alternatives for Purchasing Liverwurst at Trader Joe’s

Thankfully, liverwurst isn’t some mythical meat-based product that is going to be difficult to track down. Head to your local Walmart or Costco and they will probably have stacks of the stuff available.

In our opinion, if you want some quality liverwurst then you should probably be avoiding the big supermarkets anyway.

They make products to a price, not to tantalize your tastebuds. If you have a local international food store in your area then check it out.

If they sell deli meats from Germany (and the surrounding area) then they will probably have some liverwurst in stock. It will taste far, far superior to anything else that you could buy at a grocery store.

If you want the best-tasting liverwurst then you may even want to consider making it from scratch. It isn’t too difficult to make and those with a little bit of cooking experience should be fine.

We won’t list the full recipe here as you will need a decent number of ingredients and it is a rather lengthy process.

However, if you do everything right (and there are plenty of guides online that will walk you through all that you need to do), then we are confident that you can end up with something that tastes stunning.

Considerations When Purchasing Liverwurst

Liverwurst is quite a fatty product. Half of any liverwurst serving will likely be fat, and then most of the rest will be made up of proteins. You probably don’t want to be dining on too much of it at a time.

However, it is a product that has been made from the liver of an animal. This means that it is a few nutrients inside it that you will probably find beneficial to your health. This includes:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin B2
  • Iron
  • Zinc
  • Phosphorus

This is just scratching the surface of the nutrients that you can get inside each serving of liverwurst. It may be worth buying some if you are suffering from certain nutritional deficiencies.

However, it doesn’t necessarily have to be liverwurst that you buy. Pretty much any liver product (including pate) will have the same sort of nutritional value.

How you eat your liverwurst is up to you. Most people will slice it up and place it on a piece of bread. You could even cook it into certain dishes. There are some people that will even make some light stews from it!

Liverwurst Storage

If you have opened up your liverwurst then you can keep it in the fridge. It must be consumed within 4-6 days. Despite the high fat content, it does grow bacteria pretty well and it is unsafe to consume beyond this point.

If you do not plan on eating the liverwurst in the near future then it can be placed in the freezer. We suggest that you put it into a container.

Try to avoid opening the liverwurst before this. The container should be air tight. You can then keep the liverwurst in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Now, you could, in theory, freeze the liverwurst indefinitely and it should still be safe to eat. This is because bacteria isn’t going to grow in the freezer.

The reason why you need to cap out at 2 months is due to impaired flavors. If it is in the freezer for longer than 2 months then it won’t taste great even though it is still going to be edible.

This is part of the reason why you will need to use an air tight container. You want to preserve the taste for as long as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Trader Joes Have Deli Meat?

Trader Joe’s has a limited number of deli meats in stock. You may not always be able to find what you want in the store, but rest assured that the deli meats that are sold in Trader Joe’s are up there with some of the best that you can buy from a major grocery store.

This is because Trader Joe’s does not have any preservatives added to their deli meats.

Final Thoughts

Trader Joe’s does not sell liverwurst and it is unlikely they will ever have it in stock. They do have other deli meats, though.

If you want some liverwurst then you can head to any other big grocery store. You can even make it yourself.

Remember, once opened, liverwurst is only going to keep for 5-6 days in the fridge. If you want it to last longer then you will need to freeze it.
